The decision by Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula to drop merger plans with Musalia Mudavadi's ANC has elicited mixed reactions from across Nyamira.
While launching membership drive at Nyamira on Friday, Wetangula said his party will field a presidential candidate in 2022 polls.
"Ford Kenya is not interested in coalitions. We are going to popularize the party and field a candidate in the next elections," he said.
Already, plans had been rolled out to pave way for the merger of the two parties before the last minute U-turn.
But former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire maintains that the ODM party will continue dominating both Nyanza and Western regions for ages to come.
"I don't see any change the merger would have brought. ODM still enjoys majority support from the regions where the two leaders come from," he said.
But West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi said: "Ford Kenya is the home to be and in 2022, it will be bigger than these parties we are usually hear of."
For the better part of last week, Wetangula traversed Nyanza region, the bedrock of the Raila Odinga led ODM.
