The outspoken lawmaker said that Islam was against the raping of women.Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni said that the call was unconstitutional as Kenya did not subscribe to Shariah law.

''Obviously, that is very unconstitutional. We do not as a country subscribe to Shariah law so I think that it is wrong for Duale to advocate for such,'' the Ndaragwa lawmaker said.

His sentiments were seconded by seconded by Tongaren legislator Eseli Simiyu who called Duale's call irresponsible.

''We are not surprised by Duale's sentiments going by what he has said in the past. One wonders whether his brain hears what his mouth says. We have a constitution in this country,'' he said.

Former speaker Farah Maalim supported Duale's call, saying that rapists should be dealt with firmly.

''I have to agree with Duale on that issue. I do not agree with dealing softly with people who rape a young girl. Why is everybody criticising Duale for asking for rapists to be dealt with firmly?'' Farah Maalim said.
