A section of Jubilee leaders from Kajiado County have asked opposition leader Raila Odinga to stop lecturing the Maa community on land matters.

Led by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku, the leaders told the former Prime Minister to keep off land matters in the county.

This is after Raila made a controversial statement when he toured the county for a campaign rally, last week on Thursday.

The ODM leader asked the local community not to sell their ancestral land to ‘outsiders’ seeking to purchase land from them.

Lenku said Raila’s remarks have the effect of sowing seeds of discord between the Maasai and other communities living in the county.

“We shall not be divided along tribal or religious lines and we will not be incited to fight with our neighbours,” he said.

The former CS added: “Kajiado is one of the most peaceful counties in Kenya. We have coexisted peacefully with people who have bought property here even when other places were burning. We do not need the kind of politics Raila is trying to introduce in Kajiado.”

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Alex ole Magelo who had accompanied Lenku told off the NASA presidential candidate for purporting to lecture the locals on land rights.

“We are not small children. We know land rights more than you,” Magelo said.

He said Raila should have solved land issues in Kajiado and Narok counties when he was the Prime Minister in the Grand Coalition Government.

“What land rights is he talking about that James Orengo did not rectify when he was Land minister?” he posed.

The leaders were addressing a public rally in Mile 46, Iloodokilani, the same venue where made his controversial remarks that have made him come under heavy criticism from Jubilee leaders.
