South West Kisumu ward representative Joseph Abiola who has consistently organized for ID registrations in his ward said leaders must now step up and support registration.

Abiola said the leaders must now use the little resources at their disposal to support ID registration.

“If only our leaders can pull resources together and put in the mobilization those who have not registered, that would be perfect,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Monday, Abiola said that Raila Odinga presidency is only pegged on the high turnout of people registering for ID and subsequently acquiring voters’ card.

A resident of his ward Shem Wagude said leaders should take example from Abiola who has made it a month event to offer support for ID registration.

Wagude said everybody who has reached the mandatory age of 18 should be rallied to get out and register ahead of the coming elections.

“Every day, every month, many people are turning 18, these are the people who should be encouraged to register for ID,” he said.

Another resident Maureen Oyuu said supporting ID registration is the only way to support old women who cannot afford the cost of registration.

Oyuu said the verbal support to Raila will not bear any fruit unless locals turn out and register as voters’.
