Leaders from Kwale County convened a peace meeting where politicians seeking various elective seats were asked to exercise restraint during campaigns to avoid violence.

County Commissioner Kutswa Olaka commended the county for being identified as one of the regions that enjoys peace during before, during and after elections.“Despite threats from groups like Mombasa Republican Council, the area has been peaceful during elections,” Olaka said during a forum convened to discuss peace.He said peace ambassadors in the county should continue with the good work and ensure peace prevails.County Lands executive Ali Mafimbo who represented Governor Salim Mvurya asked voters in the county to reject politicians spreading hate messages.The county’s Peace Committee chairperson Sharif Mbwana said aspirants should be ready to win or lose. He said elections come and go but Kwale will remain thus the need for peace.Senior security officers, party candidates, religious leaders and peace committee members attended the one-day event.The National Cohesion and Integration Commission is currently engaged in peace initiatives aimed at uniting Kenyans as the country prepares to hold an election.NCIC is working with security agencies to ensure leaders preaching hate are arrested, charged and imprisoned.
