Community leaders in Nakuru West are now appealing to the county government to reintroduce the school feeding program due to the ravaging hunger in the area.
Area leaders said that most children in the area have dropped out of school and opted for menial labour following famine outbreak in the area.
Kigonor, Kaptembwa and Kapkures area as the most affected areas.
Speaking to journalists Kapkures MCA, Joseph Langat, said that his area has not received ample rainfall for the last three years.
Langat said that most pupils have turned into quarry mining, which were common in the area, to earn a living.
“The National Government need to introduce school feeding programme in order to attract more children in school especially in a season like this,” said Langat.
Kigonor Village elder, Joseph Kemei, said that majority of the school girls were now resorting to early marriages and prostitution in search of money for buying food.
He attributed the increased cases of illicit brew to the on going famine.
