Legislatures in the Coast region have called on the National Land Commission (NLC) to ensure all public primary and secondary schools receive title deeds.
The leaders, led by Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga and his Changamwe counterpart Omar Mwinyi said land grabbers have taken advantage of the opportunity to claim land belonging to public schools.
Speaking on Wednesday in Kaloleni Constituency, Kilifi County, Mwinyi called on the national government, through the NLC, to ensure squatters in the area are settled.
"It is high time the government came up with a policy to ensure every Kenyan is settled and has a place to call home," said Mwinyi.
On his part, Mwinga asked residents in the region not to live in fear, saying land issues in the area are being looked into.
"We know that this issue of squatters is being tackled by the National Land Commission. Therefore, a solution should be reached at as soon as possible so that local residents can live without fear," said Mwinga.
The Coast region has for a long time been faced with several land disputes, with residents critising the government for failing to come up with a long term solution.
