A section of leaders from Borabu, Nyamira County have called upon the government to find a lasting solution to cattle rustling along the county’s boundaries.
Led by Esise ward rep Joseph Nyarang’o, the leaders said the recent attacks in the region have been associated to water and grazing land as well as boundaries dispute.
Nyarang’o said cattle rustling across the Kipsigis, Maasai and Kisii boundary had become a security threat.
He said the government must put in place mechanisms to address the underlying causes of insecurity and cattle rustling to ensure sustainable peace in the region and to promote peaceful co-existence amongst communities.
“I call upon the government to act fast and engage leaders and the communities in a bid to find a lasting solution over cattle rustling.”
“We are giving Interior CS Fred Matiang’i up to January to stamp out the vice, failure which I will ask my people to defend themselves,” said Nyarang’o.
On Monday, a man suspected to be a cattle rustler was lynched by an angry mob in Moromba village, Manga, Nyamira County.
Area police boss James Musyimi who confirmed the incident said area residents who caught the suspect beat him before setting his body on fire before the police arrived at the scene.
