Two leaders from the North Rift region have petitioned the national government to reopen the immigration department offices in Eldoret town.

The office was closed down in 2015 following Al Shabaab threats and claims of the officials engaging in corruption when issuing passports to locals.

Nandi senator Kiprotich Cherargei and Soy MP Caleb Kositany said the closure of the offices had inconvenienced most of the residents seeking passports.

“Locals have been forced to travel to Nairobi to process for passports yet there was an office in the region. President Uhuru Kenyatta should help the re-opening of the offices because there are no longer Al Shabaab threats,” said Kositany.

Cherargei called on leaders from the region to team up for the offices to be opened to serve the residents.
