Speaking at the Thika School of the Blind, Mwaura said that such people have the same rights as other Kenyans.

He said that they deserve to be respected and treated with dignity and also to be included in development programmes.

“I want to ask the counties and the national government to champion the rights of disabled persons,” he said.

The MP observed that the people living with disabilities have talents that if nurtured will go a long way in bettering their lives and the society at large.

Mwaura further called on people with disabilities to apply for development funds and start small business for their own benefit.

The legislator said that people living with disabilities have been neglected for a long time, noting that time has come for them to demand what rightfully belongs to them.

He urged national assembly, the senate and the county assemblies to formulate policies that will promote the welfare of the group.
