Vision 2030's realisation under the social pillar will not be attained if the component of information provision was ignored.

Speaking at a fundraiser on the proposed Gamba Community Library project in Manga, Nyamira County, KNLS chairman Samuel Nyangeso stressed on the urgent need to implement the pillar in order to attain the desired vision 2030.

Nyangeso warned that the vision expected to transform Kenya into a middle level economy will not be attained if library services including those at the community level were not established.

He criticised leaders for claiming in their public utterances that 'information was power’, yet the county governments were not keen in establishing the libraries as a devolved function.

According to the chairman, the proposed project estimated to cost Sh15 million will improve examination performance, claiming schools which did poorly lacked the services.

On issues of corruption, Nyangeso cautioned the opposition against targeting the local community by maligning the reputation of some of its public officers for engaging in the vice.

He claimed graft started at the grass root and was a collective responsibility even as he urged the community to support the government of the day.

Rasugu Chui, the initiator of the still-born project for decades, explained how he will work with Gusii Development Alliance, a development group in the region, to implement it, adding that the area stood to benefit from the facility by accessing books of all categories and computer lab.

Rasugu denied claims that he participated in the area’s development by nursing political ambitions, adding that if approached by the residents to do so at an appropriate time, he will consider their request.

Over Sh500,000 was raised at the occasion.
