Nyamira leaders have been urged to support orphans across the county to give them a new lease of life by investing in various orphanages.

Speaking at Riamoni village during a late celebration of world orphans day on Thursday, Gesima Assistant Deputy County Commissioner Veronica Wangui said more needs to be done to improve the welfares of orphaned children whose numbers were rising.

She urged leaders to give the victims priority in educational support so that they gain technical skills and education as a weapon of fighting poverty in future.

“It’s my appeal to local leadership to help orphanages across the county so that we restore hope to hundreds of children who are orphaned at tender age. They deserve our support and it will be more tangible if our leaders chip in to help us,” she said.

“They need an education or technical skills for their future so that they can handle the harsh economic live. It’s my wish that leaders allocate money from various funds to these children so that they get education without interruption,” she added.

She warned guardians against subjecting orphans to torture staying the government would not hesitate to take stern actions against such incidents.

“It’s also my wish to remind guards in custody of orphaned children to take care of them without torturing them. As a government, we will not hesitate to take actions against culprits,” Veronica added.
