Kiambu leaders have decried importation of People Living with Disability who are misused by unscrupulous people to make money out of them.

Led by PLD representative from Kiambu County Priscilla Nyokabi, the leaders now want a comprehensive assessment of all disabled people in Kiambu who they said must be given accreditation cards to be conducted.

Nyokabi challenged parents to pursue their collective parental responsibility of educating and feeding their disabled children castigating those who hide their children.

Nyokabi said Kiambu County had set aside 50 million to fund People Living with Disability activities every year calling on all disabled persons to register with the national council to benefit.

“Kiambu has enough resources to fund all activities but the looming smuggling of disabled persons from Tanzania has devastated our activities. We are making a move to assess all disabled persons within Kiambu to help us budget for their activities,” said Nyokabi.

Kiambu women representative Gathoni Wamuchomba reprimanded unprincipled Kenyans smuggling disabled persons saying that the government will take stern action against them.

She said that a PLD assessment event through Mama Care initiative was underway noting that those who will be found to be none-Kenyans will be deported.

She urged disabled persons to form cluster group to benefit from affirmative action funds as well as help them commence income generating projects.

The leaders were speaking in Ruiru during a disabled sporting activity.
