South Mugirango leaders have welcomed the decision by Kisii County government to set up a Sugar factory in the region.
The leaders led by Bogetenga ward MCA James Gisora and KNUT chairman Gucha South branch Joseph Makabe on Friday said the presence of the factory in South Mugirango will benefit locals.
"The factory should have been put up as early as now to help farmers who have been victims of exploitation by middlemen. Those opposed to its construction should think again," said the MCA.
Mr Gisora urged residents to accept the county decision since locals will get jobs once the factory starts operating.
On his take, Mr Makabe said that parents who are cane growers will sell their produce to the factory directly.
“Parents who have ventured into sugarcane farming will have no difficulties looking for the market because the factory will be buying sugarcane directly from farms to enable parents to get school fees for their children,” said the KNUT official.
