Uasin Gishu county government has partnered with the International Leadership Institute (ILI) to train different groups in the county.

The two weeks training that took off on Tuesday targets women, the youth, nurses, people with disability and disaster management groups.

Speaking to the press during the start of the program, Miriam Kosgei the Chief Officer Public Service Management said that the training was aimed at capacity building, knowledge exchange as well as empowering different groups of people to grab available opportunities.

“We intend to train about 250 representatives from all wards in Uasin Gishu County especially in areas of leadership and also empowering them for different opportunities," Kosgei said.

Kosgei said that the youth training was this year would focus on alcohol and substance abuse awareness.

These trainings have been conducted in the area by the institute since 2000 before the onset of county governments.

The president of ILI Judge Lajune Thomas Lange, said they were aimed at making Uasin Gishu a centre of excellence where people will come to learn. She also added that they were training trainers so as they would train others.
