Former International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Louis Moreno Ocampo worked hard to save President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Hague.

Leaked emails have revealed that the Argentinian proposed a way to allow Uhuru Kenyatta have “an honourable exit” amidst humanity charges levelled against him at the court.

According to the emails, Ocampo worked closely with former UN secretary general Kofi Annan to see that the president was off the hook.

“I think it is time to find an honourable exit for Kenyatta,” reads Ocampo’s e-mail to Annan as published by a Dutch publication on Thursday.

The emails reveal that by 2013, Ocampo had already given up on prosecuting the Kenyatta case and accordingly began to plot how best to collapse the case without being faulted.

He later wrote to Annan October that year proposing Kenyatta’s dignified exit. The case Kenyatta would later fall apart after two years in March 2015 when the prosecutor withdrew the charges of murder, forcible evictions and other crimes against humanity.
