Leaking sewerages in most of the estates and slums within Athi River town are health hazards to residents living in the area.
This is according to Athi River Township, MCA Michael Mutua, who said the rate of leaking sewers in the town, slums and surrounding estates were worrying.
"It is astonishing to see the sewerages leak all over, this is exposing residents to lots of health risks," said Mutua.
Mutua said the situation if allowed to continue would see cholera outbreak in the region.
According to him, the situation would be worse due to pathetic conditions in which most of the Athi slums are of high population density.
He said most of the slums have no proper human solid wastes disposal claiming some of the residents dispose human wastes in River Athi.
The MCA who addressed the press in Athi River town on Saturday called on the Athi River Public Health office to make quick intervention into the matter.
Mutua said Mavoko Water and Sewerages Company Limited need to fix the liking sewers arguing at some points, sewage and clean water mix thereby making residents consume confiscated water.
