[Photo/NTV]Lecturers in public universities have kicked off their nationwide strike.Addressing the press, Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu) Secretary General Constantine Wasonga warned that the national government should release Sh5.2 billion to them as salary increase before they call off the strike which is the third, this year.He indicated the Union had asked lecturers in 31 public universities to stay away from school as the only language the government understands.Speaking after attending a closed door meeting with union officials, Wesonga said the government failed to honour its pledge.“We moved to 2013-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement but some universities, except five, are still paying lecturers using the 2010-2013 CBA,” he said on Wednesday in Nairobi.Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum Chairman Paul Kanyari said the Ministry of Education echoed, saying the government was yet to release the required funds.
