The school that is located in Kapseret had been indefinitely closed after public health officers discovered it lacked the basic amenities thereby exposing pupils to health risks.

The officers while closing the public institutions, had threatened to take legal action to the school's management if it opened it without fixing the toilets to required health standards.

"Reopening of closed premises without written authority from this office shall lead to prosecution," read in part a letter from the Uasin Gishu County Health offices.

Parents, with assistance from Kenya Red Cross and Kapseret Constituency Development Fund, responded swiftly by putting up temporary pit latrines after the pupils' plight was highlighted on a local television.

"We have decided to build temporary toilets to enable our children to return to school," said John Kemboi, chairperson of the School's Board of Management.

"Pupils are now back to school and learning has resumed to normal after a week of stay at home," Kemboi added.

This comes after the public health officers gave the school a clean bill of health which has been met by the school.

Kapseret CDF office has also initiated construction of permanent latrines at a cost of Sh400,000.
