Deputy President William Ruto has defended the nomination of Wafula Chebukati as the IEBC chair.

While hosting a delegation from Kakamega County in his Sugoi home on Wednesday, DP Ruto said that there is no problem with Mr Chebukati serving in the commission even though he comes from the same community with CEO Mr Ezra Chiloba.

He said Chebukati was nominated based on his professional qualification.

"Mr Chebukati was not given the job because he is a Luhya, he is a professional who is well qualified earned the position,"Said Ruto.

DP Ruto also told off a section of leaders opposed to the nomination for ethnic reasons.
