Wiper Democratic leader Kalonzo Musyoka would crumble politically and subsequently lose meaning in the Kenyan political scene should he leave Cord, a renowned scholar Nyachieo Bogonko has said.
The former VP recently threatened to quit the coalition should it fail to nominate him as the sole flag bearer that will face President Uhuru Kenyatta.
And on Tuesday during a social activism dinner at Nyakoe Hotel, the University of London-educated don warned Kalonzo against committing ‘political suicide’ by ditching Cord.
“Honestly his future remains in Cord because it will be difficult for him to have relevance should he leave. Technically speaking, he has more opportunities than in opposition at the current political set up,” he said.
“If he leaves and joins the government as he hinted, then he would lower his dignity because he can’t afford to be subordinate to both the President and his deputy. He held a much higher office which he should protect jealously,” he said.
Bogonko said Musyoka still had chances in 2017 or in 2022 if his co-principal Raila Odinga retires from active politics.
‘I think even if he isn’t given the Cord ticket there is still a chance in 2022. Raila is a bit senior and hopefully, he may retire in 2022,” he said.
