Barely a day after announcing his 2017 presidential bid, Nyamira Senator Kennedy Okongo Mong'are has found himself in unfamiliar territories after he was asked to ditch the Ford Kenya party and advance his bid from elsewhere.
Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar asked Mongare to exit the Cord affiliate party which sponsored him to the Senate on grounds that Ford-K had already endorsed its party leader, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula to run for president.
"Ford Kenya has a presidential candidate and he should leave the party and seek the presidency from elsewhere," Omar said on Wednesday during a special sitting of the Senate.
Omar who is the Wiper Democratic Movement secretary general further defended his sentiments towards the Nyamira lawmaker saying Ford Kenya had already exercised their internal democracy when they endorsed Wetangula, and urged Mongare not to undo the same.
Mong\are announced that he will seek the top seat on the Federal Party of Kenya ticket.
