Governor James Ongwae of Kisii County insists that he is ready to ‘spend’ even his last coin to ensure opposition leader Raila Odinga scoops over 90 per cent of the vote-rich county in 2017.
Ongwae’s remarks comes a week before a one-day tour by Mr Odinga who is scheduled to meet youths before proceeding to Nyacheki ward to campaign for an ODM aspirant.
And in a highly attended homecoming ceremony of Olympian Hellen Obiri, Ongwae said he will traverse every corner of Gusii land to deliver votes for the Orange party.
“We have seen the divide and rule tactic of Jubilee government and no one will succumb to their theatrics. I will spend the last coin just to protect opposition’s votes in Gusii land. This is our territory and whoever is trying to divide us shall fall,” he said.
“Odinga has always protected our community and during his time as PM, we saw a number of roads being initiated in our region unlike now. We cannot be hoodwinked and all I need him (Odinga) to do is just giving instructions and leave the rest to me,” he said.
The ODM Kisii County Secretary General is facing a real threat from the Jubilee backed Senator Chris Obure who has openly shown an intention of decamping his sponsored party ODM. Party national treasurer Timothy Bosire has also vowed to campaign in Nyamira.
