A section of ODM youths have thrown their support behind embattled Public Investments Committee chairman, Ababu Namwamba, who is facing grave allegations over corruption in the country’s oversight committee.
Speaking on Thursday at Mash Park hotel in Kisii, they accused a section of ODM politicians in what they called a “political witch hunt” to the Budalang’i legislator based on his position in the country’s single largest party.
They urged the ODM disciplinary committee to de-whip committee members from the party who have been supporting the plot to kick out Namwamba from the powerful committee.
“This is purely malice and political witch hunting. The whole country knows that he is innocent and no one will convince us otherwise,” said Amwoma.
Bobasi Constituency Member of Parliament, Pius Amwoma, urged ODM disciplinary committee to punish party members who are supporting a motion to ouster Namwamba .
They said the legislators woes were also closely connected to the looming succession politics given the advancing age of ODM party leader Raila Odinga.
“Ababu is a very smart politician and many people might be very uncomfortable with his position as the official spokes person of the party. He is a natural heir to Odinga and that is why he is facing opposition,” said Amwoma.
They said they will support the estranged PAC chairperson besides urging the speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi to ignore the calls of disbanding the committee.
