Obure, who has also declared an interest in the Kisii gubernatorial seat, has been engaging in a fierce contest with the Governor accusing him of underdevelopment in the vast county.

On Sunday, several Gusii leaders who convened in Nyamira County for a fundraiser defended Ongwae’s record and slammed Obure of having selfish interests.

“I think Obure has selfish interests when he goes around accusing Ongwae of underdevelopment. Kisii has done tremendously well since 2013 when devolution came into place. It’s unfair to say the Governor has done nothing,” said Omingo Magara, the KICC chairperson.

“We have seen passable roads which were once in a terrible state, clean water and modern markets in the county among other things. The Senator should concentrate on his roles of oversight and leave Ongwae alone,” added Samuel Omwando, a former mayor.

Former Nyaribari Chache MP Robert Monda said the Governor should be given ample time to fulfill his 2013 promises to the people of Kisii.

“The Governor is doing fairly well and the Senator should desist from destabilising development. He should be given humble time to deliver,” he said.
