Speaking in his constituency on Wednesday, Koinange said that leaving the mandate of town and cities physical planning to the County Governments has turned suicidal.

Koinange has said that the move will shield contractors working on constructions sites and tenants who rent those houses later from danger and death resulting from collapsing of houses as witness in various parts of Kenya.

"The deaths we have been witnessing recently are uncalled for. The County governments have shown clearly that they cannot be entrusted with this role", said Koinange.

"There is a house that collapsed in Gacharage in my area Kiambaa not very long time ago and it was out of negligence by the County Government officials", added Koinange.

Koinange said that there should be proper records of day to day construction of any building which the County Government rarely ask for.

Between December last year and now at two different houses have collapsed killing occupants in Nairobi, with the most recent one killing two people in Huruma estate.

The MP said that for such incidents to be avoided in future, government should reconsider taking the mandate of supervising any construction of residential and commercial buildings.
