Opposition leader Raila Odinga has challenged Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery the leave weapons to ‘barracks’ and allow the rule of law to prevail.
Odinga faulted deployment of police officers outside parliament during the passing of controversial election laws.
Speaking at the burial of veteran politician John Keen on Friday, Raila urged the government to fight using ‘words and policies’ rather than using police officers.
“My good friend General Nkaissery was my political student and that remains so. He was my assistant minister during Grand Coalition government,” he said.
“I want to ask him to leave weapons to barracks and let us fight using words and policies. The government should not use the police to silence the opposition,” added Odinga.
Nkaisery was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to cabinet, a move which forced him to break ranks with the opposition in 2015.
