Dr Fredrick Ogola Onyango the Strathmore university lecturer who was accused of killing his wife, Rebecca Gobi Mwachongo is now admitted in Nairobi hospital after he collapsed at Dagorretti police cells on Friday night.​

Police had obtained orders to detain the the university don for 10 days in order to complete investigations on the allegations.

Police had suspected that the Rabecca had died after a physical fight with the lecturer a claim which the university don denied.

A postmortem conducted by government pathologist revealed that the deceased died of a blood clot in her heart and fluid in lungs.

"She also had a blood clot in the left atrium (in the heart) ... but we cannot attribute this to anything at the moment,”the postmorterm report read.

Police were notified of the condition of the lecturer by other inmates who were shouting. They found him rolling on the floor and rushed him to hospital.

In an earlier interview with Ogola said that her wife fell on the bed while they were playing.

“There was no fight. This was a play, she had asked me what my programme was and I told her that my plan was to drop the letters. She told me that I would not be going and I asked her what she would do to stop me,” Dr Ogola said.

Rabecca had died in the morning of the new year s day. The lecturer was arrested on Tuesday and arraigned in court on Wednesday but did not take plea.
