The society has been called upon to ensure children are equipped with national values for a better society and nation at large.
Addressing parents on Saturday during the 2016 Prize giving day at Lions school Nakuru, Dr. Damaris Seleina Paristau, Director and Senior Lecturer Institute of Women Gender and Development Studies (IWGDS) Egerton University, said a time has come for the society and academic institutions to ensure children are equipped with national values at an early stage.
“It is very sad that we have lost as a nation when it comes to national values where we all think in terms of tribe. A time has come that we instill in our children the national values at a tender age and shun tribalism,“she said.
Damaris slammed at politicians for dividing Kenyans on tribal basis.
Citing the recent visit by Tanzanian President John Pombe Magufuli to this nation, Professor Damaris called on Kenyans to learn a lesson or two from Tanzanians who even fear Kenyans due to the deep rooted ethnicity.
“John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania was here recently and he talked about tribalism which has made even some Tanzanians to fear associating with Kenyans due to tribalism. As Kenyans and politicians too it’s high time we shun tribalism and treat each other as people of one nation,” she said.
On his part, head teacher Lions Primary Phanuel Imbusi called on parents not to tire in ensuring their children get quality education.
“I must thank you parents for the continued support. My appeal to you this day is that don’t tire in doing good to ensure your children get quality education,” he said.
