Photo source: www.redpepper.co.ugUniversity lecturer Stella Nyanzi, who hit headlines after calling Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni a pair of Buttocks, has refused to undergo psychiatric tests pending investigations. According to her lawyers, the call for psychiatric tests is an attempt by the Ugandan authority to declare her insane. The scholar was detained for a period of two weeks after using abusive words against the head of state and his wife. The case filed against Nyanzi is a clear indicator of hostility as per Museveni’s critics. On her part, Nyanzi has called upon the Ugandan citizens not to be offended by her words but the failure of the President to address issues affecting them despite having been in power for several decades. The scholar argues that Ugandans have nothing to smile about when it comes to democracy since the President has imposed oppressive rule unto them. Her lawyer, Nicholas Opiyo, said that she informed him that the authorities at the prison had attempted to trick to undergo the tests but she refused. “They (the government) do not want to go to trial," he said. "They just want to de-legitimise Stella, characterise her as a fool, a mad person ... and confine her to a mental hospital,“ said the Lawyer as Star quoted. Nyanzi is not new to controversy. Some time back, she threatened to strip naked if Museveni was re-elected.
