University lecturers now say they will embark on street protests on Wednesday to push the government to implement their CBA in full.
This comes after only 3 out of 31 public universities have implemented the 2013/2017 CBA.
According to Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Vice Chair, 5 universities had initially adjusted lecturer’s salaries only to fall off later leaving Chuka, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Machakos University complying with the new salary scheme.
It’s a song that depicts their renewed resolve to push for what they say is rightfully owed to them by the government, and simply it’s the full implementation of the 2013/2017 CBA.
Refuting to Monday’s assertion by the Inter-Public Universities Consultative Council Forum (IPUCCF) that the government only owes them 4 months’ salary arrears,
Vice Chair of UASU Joseph Mberia says the university council has failed to negotiate internal CBA’s that were part and parcel of the National CBA.
According to Mberia lecturers in 28 universities out of the 31 public universities across the country are yet to start enjoying the benefits of the 2013/2017 national CBA while none of the charters across the country have negotiated the internal CBA’s.
