The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) Secretary General Constantine Wasonga said there are no ongoing negotiations currently as the government has not adhered to their demands.

Wasonga said most of the demands they gave the government in the last week of negotiations were not honoured.

"We expected that the Inter Public University Consultative Council Forum would give us a new offer but instead when we met, they came with powerpoints to show us how they arrived at the 3 per cent and 1.6 increase of house allowance which as a union we said no," he said.

He said it was unfortunate that the IPUCCF had reduced University dons who are the crème de crème of the society to ‘Isikuti dancers’.

"We will not tire, we will dance Isikuti as long as it takes hence its high time the dons reclaimed their glory, stand up for their rights and say no to slave wages and forced labour," said Wasonga.

He added: "I will not append my signature to an inferior Collective Bargain Agreement."

The Secretary General maintained that the strike will continue until the CBA is implemented to the latter.

He also urged the Cabinet Secretary for Education Fred Matiang'i to ensure that the sector does not fall during his time in the ministry.

Wasonga also refuted claims that there were ongoing classes in various campuses saying that the strike has completely paralyzed learning in the universities.

"In some of the universities I visited I only saw monkeys learning under the trees," he said while at Maseno University on Monday.

The dons had earlier rejected the government’s offer of Sh10 billion.

The three unions, Uasu, Kusa and Kudhea commenced a nationwide strike on January 18, demanding for the negotiation, signing, registering and implementation of a CBA for the period between 2013-2017
