Moments after resignation of IEBC commissioner Roselyn Akombe, a section of law and other related disciplines have given their insights.
In her detailed from New York, Akombe insisted that the commission was under siege from external forces adding that Kenya is not ready for a free and fair poll in the near future.
Canadian based lawyer Miguna Miguna said on his Twitter: “Akombe has conscience together with integrity and that is what we need for our democracy to prosper.”
His US based scholar, Prof Makau Mutua, termed the move as a ‘bombshell’ adding that the commission should reflect and make decisive decisions before October 26th.
But Lawyer Kipchumba Murkomen, who also doubles as Senate Majority Leader termed the move as ‘democratic right’ that could not hinder operations within the IEBC.
“She had a constitutional right to take such a move and no one should criticize her. I don’t think it will affect anything at all.”
On his part, controversial academician Mutahi Ngunyi however, accused Akombe of allegedly being part of the team working with judiciary to sabotage elections.
“Akombe is part of David Maraga coup. It is happening in a slow motion in front of our own eyes,” he said in a controversial tweet.
