[Photo/Gor Mahia FC]Legendary Gor Mahia midfielder Allan Thigo has been inducted into the 2017 SOYA Awards Hall of Fame.Thigo was a skillful midfielder in the 70s who had a distinguished career with Gor Mahia for 13 consecutive years.He helped Gor Mahia win three Kenyan Premier League titles as a player-coach leading K’Ogalo to a historic unbeaten run in winning the league in 1976.He was nicknamed 'ogango Wuon pap' since he had no rival in the midfield and stood out as one of the best midfielder Kenya ever produced.He was also the only Kenyan player/coach to have won the title back to back, more so unbeaten.Speaking during the Sports Personality of the Year Award (Soya) ceremony at the KICC, Nairobi, Deputy President William Ruto hailed Conseslus Kipruto and Hellen Obiri, saying they are exemplary athletes with an indomitable spirit and a strong will to excel. Ruto said their prowess had shone through and the accolade of sportsman and sportswoman of the year respectively was well deserved. He said Samuel Muchai, the Sports Personality of the Year, was a true hero and a shining example that with determination and focus, one can beat all odds. "We are proud of you all as Kenya's sporting ambassadors, for your unparalleled dedication and patriotism," Ruto told the athletes on Wednesday night.
