Veteran athlete and two-times Olympic champion Kipchoge Keino has advised young and upcoming local athletes to focus on winning races through practise and hard work.

Speaking at the Kipchoge Keino stadium in Eldoret town during the World U18 championships pre-trials, Keino warned the athletes against using drugs to enhance their performance.

This he said would quickly destroy their careers.

"If you want to stay longer in this game then avoid drugs as they will end up destroying your future," Keino told the young athletes.

"Always work hard and focus on winning clean. Shortcuts won't take you anywhere," he added.

Keino who is also the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) chairman noted that the current youthful athletes are the future Kenyan ambassadors in the sporting arenas worldwide.

"We all know how athletics is selling this country abroad and this is why it's important for our young generation of athletes to know that the country rely on them to fly the flag and by using drugs then we won't have people to represent us globally," Keino noted.
