Nyaribari Chache MP Richard Tong’i has called on the national government to add more money into the funds that is allocated to Kisii University by the national treasury.
Tong’i said that that is the only way the University can continue its learning programmes.
Speaking in his constituency as he gave out the CDF checks to various groups in the constituency, the legislator said that the government has for a long time been looking down upon Kisii University and allocating little money to the institution compared to other universities.
He said that he shall raise the matter to the Parliamentary Budget Committee in which he is a member and ask that the institution be allocated more money.
He said that the university is one of the largest institutions in the region adding that it is t one of the largest employer and if it is not given enough money the workers will not be paid.
“Kisii University is one of the biggest institutions we have in Gusii and has many employees but it is allocated less funds and as a member of the Budget Committee in parliament I will fight to ensure our school gets more funding. We want our teachers to be paid,” said Tong’i.
