Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar was on Tuesday heckled by a section of participants at the second Annual Legislative Summit.
The summit brings together Senators and Members of the County Assembly with this year's edition being held in Mombasa.In his address, the outspoken Senator who is also the Wiper Secretary General claimed that devolution has been abused by some governors who have 'become colonialists', a statement that did not go well with a section of the delegates who heckled him.To observers, the salvo was directed at Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who has been under constant attacks from the Senator for allegedly misappropriating county resources.The Senator who is eying the Mombasa Governor's seat asked the stakeholders to ensure that devolution works, and accused the media of making MCAs be viewed as unworthy."The media makes MCAs unworthy whereas some are more learned than MPs," said Omar.He further asked the devolved units to ensure that there is equity in the distribution of resources, which he says is the only way to ensure that devolution becomes a success.
