Hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta called upon students to stop the arson attacks across the country, Lelwak Boys High School in Nandi County was the next to defy the call as a school dormitory was torched Sunday afternoon to add number to the increased school infernos.
This comes barely hours after the president warned that he would ensure that all those involved in the arson cases would face the full force of the law.
In a Facebook post confirming the incidence, the Knut Kenya page said the elongated term dates was the main reason causing the current unrest in schools, something which the authorities have denied.
“Students defy Uhuru Kenyatta and his advisers. Fires continue. Burning right now is Lelwak High in Nandi County. (…) A survey commissioned by the Standard Media Group shows that elongating term dates is the main cause of the fires in schools. Faceless exam cartels is a political gimmick to wish away the fires. Government knows it. We know it. But this is Kenya. Where we play politics even with serious education issues that touch our future generations,” read the post.
The cause of the fire has not been established.
Other schools also reported to have been burnt in the last few hours include Kipchmichim High School in Kericho, Kwale Boys in Kwale and Milo High School in Bungoma.
