The Uasin Gishu county Director of Clinical Services, Dr. Billy Lubanga has warned Eldoret residents against listening to non-professional people who give misleading advice about the use of products which could be detrimental to health. “It is very wrong for people to blindly follow a directive given to them on the streets about their health and go on to implement it before confirming with a health facility on the efficacy of the product obtained from the street”. he added. Lemon, a citrous fruit has been credited with numerous health merits ranging from its ability to help in weight reduction, its antibacterial strength. According to Dr. Lubanga, lemon does not reduce weight no matter the quantities one ingests, advising those wishing to cut on weight to indulge in activities that assist in metabolizing calories such as exercising and eating foods that are low in calorie content. “Am really disappointed that these people get this information which they blindly follow from quacks in the streets”, said Dr. Lubanga. The doctor who spoke to journalist from his office emphasized that the main ingredients this fruit contains is citric acid and ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid also referred to as vitamin C is required by the body for the metabolism of calcium a nutrient that is very beneficial to the development of bones. While citric acid is the component in the lemon that allows its usage as an antibacterial due to its ability to destabilize the acidity level that a bacteria can survive in. Dr. Lubanga asked those with health problems to seek accurate information from professional medics.
