Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel was on Thursday charged in a Nanyuki court for allegedly threatening to burn a police station in Laikipia County.

Lempurkel was re-arrested in Nairobi on Wednesday hours after he was freed on cash bail bond of Sh100,000 for assaulting nominated MP Sarah Lekorere.

According to Radio citizen, the MP is said to have made the threatening remarks on July 31, 2016 and said that him with his supporters will set Rumuruti Police station if the officers will not release a suspect who was locked up in the station.

Appearing before  chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai, Lempurkel denied the charges and was released on a Sh500,000 bond or a cash bail of Sh300,000 pending the hearing of the case.

He paid the cash bail.
