The Kisumu East Member of Parliament Shakeel Shabir has declared his support for the incumbent Kisumu county governor Jackton Ranguma.
Speaking at the burial ceremony of a resident of Kisumu East sub-county on Saturday, the lawmaker asked mourners and residents to re-elect Ranguma, touting him the best available candidate.
He said that for a leader to accomplish his long term projects, he needed to be given two terms as applicable to Ranguma.
"Even the constitution recommends two terms. Ten years is the least period a political leader needs to finish his long term promises to his people," he said.
Shabir also confirmed to his constituents that he will be defending his seat in 2017.
"Rumor has been going round that I will be running for governorship. That is a lie because I still have unfinished business with my people of Kisumu East. If they feel that they still need my service, I will be happy."
In attendance was governor Jack Ranguma who echoed Shabir's sentiments.
