The Rift Valley Council of Elders has distanced itself from a section of elders drawn from Mount Kenya region who are advocating for President Uhuru Kenyatta to allocate more cabinet slots to Mount Kenya as an award for the support he got.

Addressing media in Nakuru on Wednesday, the council through their Patron Gilbert Kabage said the push by the group is reckless and ill advised.

They called on the Rev. Francis Munga-led group to be mindful of the welfare of other communities in the country.

“We elected President Uhuru Kenyatta and he received support from all the communities and therefore as Rift Valley Council of Elders we stand with the President to be allowed to make independent choices while forming his cabinet,” said Kabage.

According to Kabage, statements made by a section of elders from Mount Kenya is what 'misled' leaders before.
