Thika township ward MCA Kennedy Mwangi has revealed that plans are underway in sensitizing Kiandutu women against domestic violence and their constitutional rights.

The MCA said that many women suffer from domestic violence by men beating and defiling their wife and daughters within the community.

He said that women in slum dwellers have no idea of their rights and thus in partnerships with Kiandutu Outreach Project (KOP) plans are underway to empower women in the sprawling Kiandutu slums.

Mwangi has expressed his concerns with increase domestic violence in Kiandutu, Kiganjo and Athena saying that cases of defilement and domestic violence has been alarming in the Thika Police Station and drastic measures need to be taken.

The legislator said that women are the future generation of the country and if their rights are not protected we are at war with vision 2030.

He cited the recent establishment of International Federation of Women Lawyers-Kenya (FIDA) offices within Thika town to help the area women from hooligan men in the society.

The law maker lauded the KOP chairman James Mwangi for their support in the slum region and assured them to look for well wishers to help in the running of the organization.

He further urged women not to remain silent in their homes since ones their husband have started beating them chances are that one day they will succumb to death.

“Ones he has started to lay a hand on you, he will continue and one day he will kill you, therefore report those men to the authority,” said the MCA

The MCA who was speaking on Tuesday urged his fellow counterparts to empower women within their reach to help them from the hooligans’ men.
