IEBC commissioner Thomas Letangule has said Cord's push to disband the electoral body is as a result of power struggle between ruling Jubilee and Cord.
Speaking during Al jazeera's Inside Story programme on Wednesday, Mr Letangule said IEBC is just a 'soft target' the opposition is using to reach out to government.
"I do not think Cord is really interested with IEBC reforms. This is a power struggle as witnessed today where two parallel Madaraka Day celebrations were held by both government and opposition. We are just a soft target," Letangule told Al jazeera.
He said it was impossible to disband the commission with only 14 months to the general elections, arguing it would pose a huge challenge to the new 'inexperienced commissioners'.
Letangule however, acknowledged that the commission has credibility issues.
"We have had a sustained media campaign by the opposition tarnishing our name which has affected our credibility. But going forward, we are trying to ensure that we don't repeat where we failed in 2013," he added.
The commissioner also accused Cord of not cooperating with them to have the issues of contention addressed amicably.
"It does not help them to go to the streets because we have been calling them to tell us where to rectify. What they are calling picketing is not. They are rioting and looting," said Letangule.
