Youths in Naivasha have started a cleaning up exercise for the area. The Vijana wa Naivasha youths lamented that the town had emerging piles of dirt and trash yet the municipal council collected it for free every week. They cited that there were many boulders and cravats that had become a popular dumping site for used diapers and sanitary towels. Muthoni Mutheiri cited Kanjo estate as one of the most affected, with the area littered with plastic paper bags. She called on entrepreneurs to consider investing into recycling of the papers in the area. The youths claimed that they were tired of the embarrassment associated with the dirt in the town. “We decided to join hands and clean up our town. We intend to make it a monthly initiative to at least clean a part of an estate,” said Byron Geordasaiye. He argued that there needed to be strict by laws that affected the people who were used to dumping trash everywhere. “Currently they do not view it as a big threat. However, in due time, the trash tht will be all around will be too much to contain,” he cited Kelvin Muthiani also cited that the disposal of human waste into drenches was slowly becoming a menace. “Our estates are becoming more filthy and people have stopped caring. Its up to us youths to deal with this and educate the people on the importance of remaining clean,” he added.
