President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged opposition leaders to shun abusive politics and instead embrace policy-based politics.
The President said the era of gaining political mileage by abusing others is long gone and wananchi want to see leaders with elaborate plans for developments that will lift their lives.
“We need to be led by policies and unity of purpose which will bring development and prosperity to our people,” said President Kenyatta.
President Kenyatta was speaking at St. Joseph Girls’ High School grounds in Kibwezi when he launched the upgrading to bitumen standards the Kibwezi-Mutomo road.
The President said tribal and divisive politics are destructive and should be avoided at all costs.
“We have no business to antagonize each other because of politics. Let’s work towards uniting Kenyans not dividing them. We have one country and we don’t need to destroy it because of political competition,” said President Kenyatta.
The Head of State called on the Kamba community to join hands with the Government and focus on politics of development which will help them prosper economically.
He pointed out that the new road, when complete, will connect the region with Garissa and parts of North Eastern region, making it an area attractive to business people.
The President said the road, which connects to the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, will help in reducing transport costs for business people of Makueni, Kitui, Garissa, Embu, Isiolo and other parts of North Eastern region.
“This road will shorten the journey for those travelling from Kitui and North Eastern region. It will also ensure that we can easily extract minerals such as lime stone and coal in Kitui and use them for development,” said the President.
President Kenyatta said the Jubilee Government’s agenda is to transform the nation and bring prosperity to all Kenyans irrespective of their political, social, religious or tribal background.
On the construction of Thwake dam, the Head of State said the project which is estimated to cost over Ksh 30 billion would greatly benefit the people of the Lower Eastern region counties of Makueni, Kitui and Machakos.
He said already the Government has set aside Shh1.4 billion to compensate the locals who will be affected by the dam project.
The President said such projects are intended to transform the lives of all Kenyans, adding that water from the dam will be used for irrigation.
