Governor Alfred Mutua has called on politicians to put aside their differences and spearhead peace and unity ahead of the 2017 elections.

Mutua while opening the 2nd United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) cultural celebrations on Thursday in Machakos, said that the country needs to remain united ahead of the elections.

Mutua asked politicians to put aside their pride and influence and aim at bring Kenyans together.

“Unity of Kenyans should be first priority and it is upon us politicians to bring Kenyans together,” he said.

Governor Mutua added that the interests of Kenyans are much bigger than those of politicians.

He said that the county will avoid violence and chaos if politicians aim at preaching unity.

At the same time, Mutua urged Kenyans to embrace their divergent cultures.

He said that Kenyans have different cultures which they can use to promote integration and cohesion.

The UNESCO conference brings together different African countries where they will be showcasing their different  cultures.

It also brings together the 47 counties which will also showcase their divergent cultures.

The conference and exhibition that started on Thursday will end on Saturday.
