Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi on Friday attended the launch of Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) Mainstreaming and Aligning of CIDPs with Jumuiya 2030 and Kenya Vision 2030 at the Voi Wildlife Lodge, Taita Taveta County.

During the second-day of the event, he said:

"We have come a long way from July 13th, 2015 when the JKP initiative was formally inaugurated by the six County Governors with the aim of harmonizing development priorities for crosscutting issues. The inauguration was a culmination of many months of work involving the political leadership, professionals from all sectors, the private sector, donor organisations and government institutions.

One remarkable feature of the negotiations that gave birth to JKP, is that we were able to transcend political inclinations and personal beliefs to bring the idea to fruition.

Much of what JKP has achieved has ridden purely on the goodwill of the six County Governors and our partners. By anchoring JKP on the 3 regional universities namely; Technical University of Mombasa, Pwani University and Taita Taveta University, we have been able to make tremendous progress in advancing the JKP agenda.

However, as we embark on the second term of devolution, it is imperative that we wire the JKP agenda into our planning frameworks to give it a new impetus.

The County Integrated Development Plans offer us an opportunity to install the core of the JKP agenda in the everyday plans of the Counties and we must align the sectoral plans in every County with the overall strategies of the JKP."
