Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko has dismissed Sunday’s endorsement of Water minister Eugene Wamalwa to vie for the capital city’s governorship.
Sonko, instead welcomed Wamalwa’s competition but added that power to elect Nairobi leaders lies with the electorate and not members of Parliament.
On Sunday, a section of central Kenya MPs led by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu endorsed the Water minister as the probable candidate to contest against the incumbent, Governor Evans Kidero.
He accused leaders of playing politics with people’s lives saying they should instead preach peace and unity rather than fostering hatred along tribal lines.
He said all candidates, regardless of their tribes who want to vie for the much coveted post should not be afraid to do so.
He welcomed Wamalwa to the Nairobi race and all those eyeing the seat saying he is ready to meet them at the ballot.
He added that the minister like any other Kenyan has a right to contest for a seat in any part of the country.
