The Nairobi County Government has asked the National Government to waive duty on computers and all computer accessories.

In a Wednesday statement, City Hall argued that waiving the would enable Nairobi's development partners to procure computers at cheaper rates for all County schools.

Speaking at Marura Primary School in Kariobangi North during the official opening of 16 completed classrooms and a multipurpose hall, Nairobi Executive for Education and ICT Ann Lokidor argued that they have already sourced for international partners to procure computers and that removal of duty would therefore boost the programme.

"Provision of Education is enshrined in our Constitution and therefore our vision is to offer globally competitive, quality basic education and training for sustainable development. Our mission is to provide, promote and manage basic education and training for the general welfare of Nairobi residents," said Lokidor.

She added that the county had sourced for a partner who was willing to equip County schools with 20 computers each.

"The removal of duty on computers would thus be a boost to the programme as it will increase the number of available computers in our schools," she said.
